Glossary

Antagonist = An IVF protocol using GnRH (gonadotropic releasing hormone) antagonist drugs (Ganirelix, Cetrotide and others)

BCPs = Birth Control Pills

Beta = Pregnancy blood test 

BFN = Big Fat Negative - a negative pregnancy test

BFP = Big Fat Positive

B/W = Bloodwork (IF and IVF involve a lot of blood draws!)
 
C/P = Chemical pregnancy


DE = Donor Egg

DE IVF = IVF using donor eggs

Delestrogen = Estrogen drug to build uterine lining

DH = Dear Husband

Dilapan = A laminaria to stretch and thin cervix to make transfer easier

DOR = Diminished Ovarian Reserve

dp3dt = Days Post 3-Day Transfer

3dt or 5dt = Most embryo transfers are done 3 or 5 days after egg retrieval.

E2 = Measurement of estrogen levels in blood


EPP = Estrogen Priming Protocol

ER = Egg Retrieval

ET = Embryo Transfer

Fert. Report = Fertilization Report (information on how many eggs fertilized gotten the day after egg retrieval)

Follistim = Follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) drug

HPT = Home Pregnancy Test

IF = Infertility

IVF = In Vitro Fertilization

Lupron = Suppressing drug

MFI = Male Factor Infertility

Menopur = Follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteininzing hormone (LH) drug

PIO = Progesterone in Oil - intramuscular injection (big needle) given from just after retrieval until beta or beyond.

RPL = Recurrent Pregnancy Loss

Stims/Stimming = Follicle stimulating drugs self-injected during IVF cycle to produce multiple eggs. (Normally, only one egg is produced per cycle.)

Trigger = Injection of Human Chorionic Gonadotropin to mature eggs for retrieval. Given 36 hours prior to retrieval.

U/S = Ultra-Sound - done vaginally.
